Destination classroom: Train to teach in Bradford
Bradford is fast cementing its reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative places in the country to train to become a teacher.
From being one of the first areas in the country to benefit from the new national Early Career Framework (ECF) mentoring programme, to blazing a trail with a series of new ‘test and train’ school improvement hubs, Bradford is using its status as an Opportunity Area to push the boundaries of education development.
It is also one of the youngest and most diverse cities in the UK, providing those hoping for a career in the classroom with a wealth of opportunities to test themselves in different teaching environments.
And now there’s a chance for those interested in a teaching career to find out what the Bradford buzz is all about at one of series of dedicated ‘Train to Teach’ webinars starting next week.
The first of a programme of four online events, the free early evening webinar on Thursday 26th November will examine the different routes into teaching with experts providing training in the city. They’ll be taking questions online to explain the difference between courses and offering free advice on how to navigate the application process.
Kathryn Gerrard, head of initial teacher training at Exceed SCITT and one of the experts hosting the webinar, said: “The range of different avenues people can take into teaching depending on what stage they are at in their lives is almost endless.
“From people who left school at 16, to graduates straight out of university and people who have had two decades working in an entirely different profession – the door is never really closed.
“This first webinar is designed to set the scene and outline some of the many different routes out there. From there we will build the picture so that those taking part will have the full set of tools at their disposal if they want to take advantage of what Bradford has to offer.”
The first Train to Teach webinar, which also features experts from the Star Institute and Bradford College, runs from 5.30pm to 6.20pm on 26th November.
The second event, scheduled for the same time on Tuesday 15th December, will focus on the options available to those who are thinking of changing career to become a teacher.
