CPD putting geography on the map
Science and geography teachers in Bradford can now access free professional development support to help them improve how they use evidence in their classrooms.
The newly launched ‘Critical Thinking for Achievement’ CPD scheme, run by the Geographical Association, is open to both primary and secondary school teachers.
It is fully funded – meaning it’s free of charge for designated Opportunity Areas like Bradford – by the Teaching and Leadership Innovation Fund (TLIF) and aims to:
- Strengthen teachers’ subject knowledge and build confidence;
- Assist in the teaching of reformed geography and science qualifications;
- Focus on knowledge application and critical use of data and evidence;
- Make more efficient use of teacher planning time.
Key features of the programme include:
- Free ‘plan-do-review’ CPD over one full term – worth £360 per teacher;
- Core training on the use of data in geography and science, including geo-located and fieldwork data – worth a further £360 per teacher;
- CPD tailored to local priorities, delivered through teacher networks;
- Support for teachers to apply techniques in their classroom.
Teachers joining ‘Critical Thinking for Achievement’ will be supported by expert trainers working alongside local network leaders.
